Sometimes you have those sudden moments of total clarity, and they often find you in circumstances that could best be described as “timeless.” I found mine on my knees in a dingy and dark club in the Tenderloin at about 1 in the morning Saturday night — I was, in fact, in a spotlight, on bended knee, sliding a size 15 Lucite stripper heel onto a slightly belligerent, bewigged tranny emcee, who, microphone in hand, was sitting on my date’s lap and admonishing the crowd for not tipping enough. While also publicly admonishing my date for being a tall drink of boyish cuteness and being decidedly straight. I was the drunken Cinderella’s footman, and it was well past midnight in a neighborhood far from mine. It was one of those Barbary Coast nights. Again. (more. . .)

692067 clapper board Confessions of a porn director
From the SF Bay Guardian:

Let’s talk about porn honestly. Porn is about making money. Despite any pretense to producing beautiful art, hot erotica, or well-crafted portrayals of masculinity at its most intense, money is what makes everybody cum. I’ve dealt with “regular” filmmakers, even fancied myself as one for a while. Yet at the end of the day I don’t believe strongly enough in the power of the movie medium to justify the expense, time, and effort it takes to create a masterful mainstream film.

So I’ve ended up, at least for the moment, in porn.

I find myself endlessly justifying my passion for it: making porn is work, and many days are filled with anger and frustration and often a kind of empty feeling in my guts. But I couldn’t imagine another employment opportunity that would offer me as much as porn does. I’ve been at this for three years so far, although it feels like much longer. I’ve been behind the camera for a little more than two years and directing for one. I’ve been to Hawaii and Brazil and spent a few too many days in Palm Springs. I’ve been inches from some of the most famous pricks in the world. (And when I say pricks, I mean it.)

Sex has always been a motivating factor in my life, at least since I discovered it. I remember vividly the blacked-out magazines in the back of bookstores being so appealing and the first time I convinced a straight man to pose naked for my photographs. Our culture prepares us from moment one to objectify beauty; now it’s what I do for a living.

From The Associated Press:

It takes a lot to make San Franciscans blush, but a video porn company has managed to do it.

A studio that makes S&M movies recently took over a historic building that once housed the National Guard, unleashing a rare public debate about decency in a city famous for sexual permissiveness.

Kink, which distributes its videos on X-rated Web sites with names such as Hogtied and Men in Pain, bought the old State Armory in the Mission District for $14.5 million, saying the vacant building’s dark Moorish architecture would make a perfect backdrop for fetish films.

“The basements in particular have a creepy, dungeony feel that is quite appropriate,” said Kink founder Peter Acworth, who planned the first leather-clad shoot this week in the building where troops trained for six decades.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s re-election campaign manager resigned Wednesday after confronting the mayor about an affair Newsom had with his wife while she worked in the mayor’s office, City Hall sources said.

Alex Tourk, 39, who served as Newsom’s deputy chief of staff before becoming his campaign manager in September, confronted the mayor after his wife, Ruby Rippey-Tourk, told him of the affair as part of a rehabilitation program she had been undergoing for substance abuse, said the sources, who had direct knowledge of Wednesday’s meeting.
