Playing with cultural trauma is one of those controversial activities. What’s “cultural trauma play”? This includes role play or fetishes around images or narrative of historical exploitation of peoples, ethnic conflicts, nationalist tensions, institutionalized racism, religious persecution, genocides and oppressions of groups.

An evening of personal instruction with Midori

Three hours of concentrated private rope instructions to finesse your floor works skills with Midori. An evening designed for those tired of intro level rope classes … and seek more personalized instruction to get to the next level of ninja-like rope skills and scene creations.

Tops – Do you want to make your rope play more confident, smooth and intuitive? Have you encountered blocks in your play you want to over come? Do you want to learn cool and subtle tricks?

Bottoms – Want to work on going deeper and finding more pleasures?

Midori will work closely with each student to asses their needs and challenges. Based on each student’s needs she’ll provide the lessons, drills and exercises.

After the lesson there will be some fine Japanese refreshments and nosh to wind down the evening of rope pleasures and learning with socializing and conversations. Midori often ends up telling tales of adventure in Japan during these socials. (Sometimes lessons transition into play for some students during this social time. As long as you respect others’ space, Midori’s happy with that.)

WHO:
This experience will be limited to 5 pairs of students to create a environment of quality learning.  Please come as a pair. While you do not have to be a couple, you do need to have your exercise partner with you. This Dojo Elective is open to those who play at one or both ends of the rope.

You do not have to be a Rope Bondage Dojo graduate to attend.

WHEN:
Instruction starts at 7pm. Door opens 6:45pm.

Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake is a triumph … and an unforgettable erotic experience.

Matthew Bourne’s narrative can be read as a classic romance. Lovers meet, their passions intertwine, grim forces of the world tear them apart, and in the end they are united in death and redemption. On another level, though, what we have here is one big tragic queer coming-out story, complete with a rejecting parent, the obligatory girlfriend and desperate attempt to conform to social expectation … followed by depression, the first gay hookup, elation, hope, brutal bullying and finally, suicide. The attacking swan troupe, descending upon and tearing apart the lover Swan was as horrific as a lynching. I felt helpless and heart wrenched.

Far too many suffered their fate in silence and invisibility. Although debuted in 1995, this performance seems particularly timely now, given the recent media attention on homophobic bullying, youth suicides, and new efforts of outreach such the “It Gets Better” project.

Lest you think this piece is just about the boys and their swinging masculine prowess, as it can be in many homo focused works, I happily testify that the women and their roles are fiercely and unapologetically sexual as well. The Queen, richly played by Nina Goldman, is a complex mix of regal, cold, lustful, glamorous and dramatic. In one scene she chooses an evening’s lover from the ranks of military men she inspects. In another she allows the Stranger to give her pleasures, despite her son’s conflicted protestations. During the Ball, the stage is so full of mini tableaux of couples dancing entwined in lust, jealousy and struggle of wills that it’s hard to know where to focus one’s attention. I clearly recall one woman carried off stage by a group of men … possibly to be the queen bee of an orgy?

Midori is seeking submissions for a special writing project:

I turn to you, dear readers, for some juicy material needed for a very special project. I am collecting women’s accounts of the physical experience their orgasms. I’m really hoping that some of you can help me out with this. Feel free to pass it on to any women or lists with women who might be interested.

Details –

I am seeking first person descriptions from women about their orgasms.

• Who: You are a woman, 18 years or older, who have experienced one or more variety of orgasms. (Transwomen! I want your unique perspectives too!)

• What: Essay of clear and detailed description of your orgasm, from start to finish, focusing on the physical experience, expressed in your own words. When does it start? What’s the hint of it? Where does it start? How does it move through your body? What sort of sensations? Imagine trying to illustrate your orgasm to a person who’s never had it.

• If you have more than one type of orgasm, each variety would be written in a separate essay piece. (The get-to-sleep quickie, the deep one, the surprise one, the long building one, solo-sex one, when getting oral sex, etc…)

• How Long? As long as it takes for you to describe it. It may be a couple of paragraphs or couple of pages.

• Credit line: How would you like your essay to be credited? You’ll have one or two lines.

• Editing: At most I will edit for grammar, spelling and simple readability. I want to keep it as true to your original narrative and tone as possible.

• When: No later than end of August
