I get requests from product manufacturers frequently to do reviews.  However, I don’t review just anything.  A product has to be of good quality, safe material, and if it is something a bit different, then that always catches my eye.  So when Intimate Teas asked me if I’d like to review one of their aphrodisiac teas, Screaming O, I said “Sure, why not?”  I did check out their website first to make sure they were using natural ingredients and not chemical stimulants.  I was surprised to learn that their teas contain many herbs that have been reported to have aphrodisiac properties including peppermint, suma, and ginseng.

Ginseng is used as a sexual tonic: if you are lethargic it can give you sexual energy and if you are tense it can help you relax.  It contains compounds that may have effects on your body resembling those of certain sex and adrenal hormones.  It does not act as an immediate sexual stimulant, but when taken long-term it can enhance your sexual vitality.–Acufinder.com

So do so-called aphrodisiacs work?  Many people use natural energy drinks with ginseng and ginkgo biloba to revive themselves through-out the workday.  Doctors will tell you there is no such thing as an aphrodisiac.  However, many others including herbalists claim that certain herbs and foods do have sexually stimulating properties.  Cherries, and other dark pigmented fruit, have been found to help with erectile dysfunction in men.  Cherries contain anthocyanin pigments which help improve circulation, and “reduce angiotensin and endothelin, both of which raise blood pressure and lower the nitric oxide needed for erections” much like Viagra does, but in a gentler way.-from Anthocyanins Against Erectile Dysfunction

I believe a natural substance can have libido enhancing properties, but what about Screaming O tea?

Screaming O tea has a mint aroma and flavor.  It is slightly bitter like most teas, but you can sweeten it with honey if you don’t like bitter teas.  The tea came in a very nice red tin with leopard-print stripes, so it’s a keeper.  Inside is a little red bag with 12 teabags.  Once you open the bag of tea the mint scent is very powerful, with a slightly spicy quality.  Just smelling it is rejuvenating.  The recommended dose is three cups of tea throughout the day before making love.  I actually only had to drink 1 1/2 cups before I started feeling the effects.

I drank the tea in the afternoon when my natural energy level was low.  I noticed I started feeling a bit of tingling excitement in my stomach, became more alert, and felt much more energetic.  My partner was away on a business trip so I had to suffice with solo sex, which was fine since I had a new toy to review as well, the Rock Chick from Vibrator.com (review next week).
