Our readers this month:

Vanessa del Rio is the all-time queen of the Latina sex stars, a lusty, exotic slice of mocha-skinned sensuality. Her name is synonymous with fiery, unrestrained sex at its rawest. Vanessa made her erotic debut in 1974’s ‘CHAIN DOLL,’ and was a top star right up until her retirement in 1986. Her enthusiasm for all kinds of wild sex made her one of the most bankable of 70’s and 80’s stars. Producers and fans knew that the name Vanessa del Rio meant sexual abandon, plain and simple. Vanessa del Rio appeared in nearly 100 films and videos during her 12-year career and never disappointed fans of lust-crazed Latin erotica. A member of the X-Rated Critics Organization’s Performers Hall of Fame, Vanessa is still one of the best-loved, most fondly remembered sex stars of all time, a bad girl with a feverish hunger for nasty, all-out sex. Vanessa del Rio has been mentioned in countless rap music videos, appeared on various talk shows, and played herself on ABC’s N.Y.P.D Blue.

• The Art of Restraint @ Femina Potens – Some willing volunteers get all tied up in knots at Femina Potens art gallery's "The Art of Restaint" where attendees indulged in rope bondage, champagne, chocolate and all other kinds of sinful delights.Photos by Gretchen Robinette.
• Why Women Don’t Want Macho Men – WSJ.com – New research suggests that women from countries with healthier populations prefer more feminine-looking men. Jena Pincott on the science behind attraction and masculinity, and the future for manly men.
• Jamie Wetherbe: SXSW Comes Out: The Annual Conference Gets More Gay Friendly – "There was nothing queer about SXSWi, despite many lesbians ― and other parts of the LGBT community ― being techies, geeks and the like," said Bendix who organized the panel. "There have been panels and talks about other minorities in the industry, but nothing specifically LGBT…. I was shocked to find out our panel was the first."
• Q: What to do if attacked by Donna M. Hughes and Margaret Brooks? | Sex In The Public Square – Margaret Brooks and Donna M. Hughes recently attacked Maymay, originator of the KinkForAll unconference model, in a bulletin published by their organization, Citizens Against Trafficking (CAT), which Maymay suggests is more suitably named Citizens Against Sexual Freedom and Discussion (CASFD). The bulletin [1] uses a technique typical of CAT CASFD: Take out-of-context statements and blend them with factual inaccuracies to produce a piece of writing capable of creating (or sustaining) irrational moral panic on the part of those who read it.
• The mythology of prostitution – advocacy research and public policy | Ronald Weitzer – This article examines the claims made by organizations, activists, and scholars who embrace the oppression paradigm, evaluates the reasoning and evidence used in support of their claims, and highlights some of the ways in which this perspective has influenced recent legislation and public policy in selected nations. The author presents an alternative perspective, the polymorphous paradigm, and suggests that public policy on prostitution would be better informed by this
evidence-based perspective.

• Getting Down About Hooking Up | Shira Tarrant | Ms Magazine Blog – What is new on the sexual landscape are debates about whether casual sex is all about fun and free will, or if hooking up is linked to sexual assault and women’s objectification.
• Vegas’ Mystery Sex Blog | The Daily Beast – A Sin City prostitute is posting her sexploits on Twitter and her blog. Richard Abowitz talks to the anonymous woman who’s inspired a city-wide guessing game.
• It’s Called a Scene Name for a Reason | Lee Harrington – It’s called a scene name for a reason.
Because its the name they want used in the scene.
• Hidden World of Girls – THE KITCHEN SISTERS are launching a new NPR multimedia series exploring the hidden world of girls. Stories of coming of age, rituals and rites of passage, secet identities—of women who crossed a line, blazed a trail, changed the tide.
• Dating A Porn Star | Lucy Vonne | The Neave Online Publication – But the minute you mention that sex is part of your profession guys only see one thing and presume things about you. ..Yes, I am constantly consumed with and thinking about sex, which was hard for men to see past. They never saw me as the girl to have a relationship with; I was just the hook up. Or if I did start dating someone, they couldn’t deal with my job and would freak out. You have to put on a certain persona and guys couldn’t separate that from the real me. It makes complete sense that I end up in this type of relationship because not only do I understand him but he gets me.
• A tale of intriguing timing. — Desk Full of Dildos – The death knell has been sounded, dear readers, for Chilldils. A great idea, which still prevailed even when faced with numerous bumps in the road, a concept that I loved not only because it was my ‘baby’, but also because it was people like YOU who gave it life, has been barred from moving any further. (More drama about a sex toy company giving personal info on former workers)

• Man on Man: The New Gay Romance (LA WeeklyO – In many ways the growing popularity of gay romance represents nothing less than a tectonic shift in a culture that says women don’t (and shouldn’t) consume porn. Hot and steamy gay-romance literature is to women what Internet porn is to men: They get off on it, mostly in secret, and keep coming back for more.
• Canadian Minister Calls for Regulation of Adult Sex Toys | Cory Silverberg – The letter (which you can download here) calls out phthalates and BPA in particular, pointing to what little research has been done on sex toys, and suggesting that there is an "urgent need for responsible regulation in the adult toy industry." The minister wants products to be safety tested before they can be sold, and the chemical composition of all sex toys to be made publicly available.
• Fantasy On Trial (Again) | Dr. Marty Klein – I’m on my home from Denver, where I testified as an expert witness at a deeply troubling trial—a trial that’s become way too common in America.
• Porn For Women Retrospective 2009 | Ms. Naughty – The year is drawing to a close and thus it’s time again to take a look back at all the newsy and interesting things that have occurred in porn for women in 2009. Overall it’s been a big year with plenty of media attention and what appears to be a growing recognition within the adult industry itself that yes, women do enjoy porn.
• Reality and Faux Ho Bloggers | Monica Shores | Carnal Nation – Sex worker web journals generally fall into two camps: marketing tools used in conjunction with a work name and website, or anonymous confessionals in which the writer discloses details about her personal life and clients. (For the purpose of this article, only female bloggers are examined.) These blogs are uniquely positioned to complicate the discourse around sex work in both negative and positive ways. They're capable of revealing rifts and commonalities in sex worker communities while also influencing the public's perceptions of and reaction to those who sell sex.
• Netflix Spilled Your Brokeback Mountain Secret, Lawsuit Claims | Threat Level | Wired.com – An in-the-closet lesbian mother is suing Netflix for privacy invasion, alleging the movie rental company made it possible for her to be outed when it disclosed insufficiently anonymous information about nearly half-a-million customers as part of its $1 million contest to improve its recommendation system.

• R-Wipe & Clean – CNET Download.com – We like this system-cleaning utility's feature set and flexibility. Naturally, R-Wipe & Clean can erase your browser's cache, cookies, temporary files, and typed URLs. In addition, you can securely delete any file via the right-click menu in Windows Explorer. You can perform common system deletions as well, such as emptying your Recycle Bin and erasing your Clipboard history.
• They Shoot Porn Stars Don’t They | Words & photos by Susannah Breslin – A photo-and-text essay on the adult movie industry and the recession.
• Want To Break Up? Tis The Season, So Better Hurry : NPR – It's not just turkeys that get nervous this time of year. Chances are high that a failing relationship will also meet its end during the holidays. That's because it's not just turkey season — it's turkey drop season.
• The Complete Guide to Google Wave: How to Use Google Wave – The Complete Guide to Google Wave is a comprehensive user manual by Gina Trapani with Adam Pash. Google Wave is a new web-based collaboration tool that's notoriously difficult to understand. This guide will help. Here you'll learn how to use Google Wave to get things done with your group. Because Wave is such a new product that's evolving quickly, this guidebook is a work in progress that will update in concert with Wave as it grows and changes. Read more about The Complete Guide to Google Wave, and follow us on Twitter for updates and Wave tips.
• A Few Questions for Belle de Jour, Call Girl and Scientist – Freakonomics Blog – NYTimes.com
• Indecent Exposure: When Sex Workers Get Outed | Carnal New York – The most common complaint leveled at Belle both before and after the reveal is that her memoir "glamorizes" prostitution—as though simply telling the truth about one's life is synonymous with promoting those circumstances. It's fascinating that in both England and the US, selling sex for money is assumed to be so alluring to most women as to need nothing more than one woman's non-traumatic experiences to convince thousands of others to join the hooker ranks. (Perhaps this is, in some ways, tacit acknowledgement of how few high-paying careers seem readily accessible to women or the pay gap that exists in both countries?)

• Sexy Biz: Durex, Lifestyles, and Trojan lead in Consumer Reports condom test | Examiner.com – Consumer Reports tested 15,000 condoms for its most recent report, representing 20 models from different brands. The most reliable? While all of the condoms tested met minimum reliability standard requirements for volume and pressure, there were four different models from Trojan, two from Lifestyles, and one from Durex that all had perfect scores, including Consumer Reports' most stringent strength measure, in which condoms are filled with 25 litres of liquid.
• Porn Industry Debates Mandatory Condom Use – ABC News – James is now campaigning to make condom use mandatory in adult films. He predicted years ago that his infection would not be the last the industry would see. In June of this year he was proven right when another performer was diagnosed with HIV.
• Obama Lifts 22-Year-Old Ban on HIV-Positive Persons Entering the US | Carnal San Francisco – As of today, 22 years of a discriminatory policy against people with HIV has ended. Today, Barack Obama signed the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act of 2009. The bulk of the bill is devoted to providing health-care services to low-income people with HIV or AIDS, but it also ends the decades-long policy of forbidding HIV-positive people from entering the United States, either for travel or immigration.
• Sex and the 405 | what your newspaper would look like if it had a sex section. – Sex and the 405 is what your newspaper would look like if it had a sex section.

Here you’ll find news about the latest research being conducted to figure out what drives desire, passion, and other sex habits; reviews of sex toys, porn and other sexy things; coverage of the latest sex-related news that have our mainstream media’s panties up in a bunch; human interest pieces about sex and desire; interviews with people who love sex, or hate sex, or work in sex, or work to enable you to have better sex; opinion pieces that relate to sex and society; a raunchier kind of celebrity gossip.

• Symposium: Trafficking in Sex and Labor: Domestic and International Responses | University of Pennsylvania Law Review – November 13th and 14th, 2009 at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Philadelphia, PA. The University of Pennsylvania Law Review Symposium will address trafficking in persons—the transportation of people across national borders, often through the use of force, coercion, fraud, or duplicity—from a domestic and international perspective.
