Call for Entries – CineKink 2011

CineKink –”the kinky film festival”–is seeking films and videos, of any length and genre, that explore and celebrate the wide diversity of sexuality. Dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television, we’re looking to blur some boundaries and will be considering offerings drawn from both Hollywood and beyond, with works ranging from documentary to drama, camp comedy to hot p*rn, mildly spicy to quite explicit–and everything in between.

Cutting across orientations, topics covered at CineKink have included–but are by no means limited to–BDSM, leather and fetish, swinging, non-monogamy and polyamory, roleplay and gender bending, sex work and sex geekery. Basically, as long as it involves consenting adults, just about anything celebrating sex as a right of self expression is fair game. (Far be it from us to define “kink” – if you think your work might make sense in this context, please send it along!)

Scheduled for its eighth annual appearance March 1-6, 2011, the specially-curated CineKink NYC will also feature a short film competition, audience choice awards, a special adult entertainment showcase, presentations, parties and a gala kick-off event, with a national screening tour to follow.

Discounted, early-bird entries have a post-marked deadline of November 5th, while the regular deadline is November 26th and the final deadline is December 10th.

To celebrate our 7th birthday,  For The Girls is holding an erotic film competition. Our aim is to discover new short films that depict an erotic subject from a female point of view.

THE FEMALE GAZE

The “gaze” is a term used to describe the way visual depictions present people and situations from a gendered perspective. Almost all mainstream movies and porn is presented with a male gaze; it assumes the audience is male and the camera acts like a man’s eye, looking at things as a man would.

The female gaze is the opposite. Films and photos shot using the female gaze speak to a female audience and depict a woman’s perspective.

Our short film competition aims to encourage the female gaze in erotic film.

THE COMPETITION

We are seeking original high quality short films up to 10 minutes in length that offer an erotic experience from a female perspective. Films do not have to be explicit but should deal with erotic or sexual themes in some way. Ideally we want to see arousing, thought-proving and moving films that capture a woman’s experience of sex or sexuality.

Entries don’t have to be made by professionals. First-time filmmakers are welcome. We are happy to see submissions from anyone with a desire to create good female-friendly erotic art.

Films should feature the official signature item, the number 7, in some way. The signature item can be peripheral or central to the story but it must be present in some form in order for the film to be eligible.

There are no fees to enter this competition.

THE PRIZES

First Prize is US$400 and a screening of the winning film at Cinekink Film Festival in New York in 2011.

Second Prize is US$100.

The top 5 films will also go onto Cinekink for automatic consideration in that festival.

The two winning films will feature prominently within the member’s area of For The Girls. We will also consider non-exclusively licensing other entries for use within the site.

DEADLINE

The Female Gaze erotic film competition officially opens on Monday June 14, 2010

Final deadline for entries is Monday, August 16, 2010

Winners will be announced on Monday August 30, 2010

Sketches from the archive of the legendary Tom of Finland will once again – it’s easily been ten or so years – hang on the walls of Feature Inc. Tom of Finland, the artist who took masculine to macho and big to XXX large, clocked the butch gay clone phenomenon at its onset and blew it out. His super hung studs, with more t&a than any cheesecaker could aspire to, are packed for action yet also deliver knowing glances and looks that are full of the camaraderie and humor that his vision of a utopian man to man culture was based on. This exhibition is made in cooperation with the Los Angeles based Tom of Finland Foundation.

Partnering Tom of Finland is and then some, sexual imagery by a number of other contemporary artists who frequently use sexual imagery in their work. The range is wide, tho less poser/genital display and more twist. Participating artists are: Richard Kern, Judy Linn, Bastille, Jerry Phillips, Martin of Holland, Joe Brainard, Fred Esher, Larry Clark, Robert W. Tom of Finland, Touko Laaksonen by birth, was born on the south coast of Finland on May 8, 1920. He trained and worked in design and advertising and in 1973, left his job to work full time on his drawings. Between 1978 and 1988, Tom of Finland split his time between Helsinki and Los Angeles; he died of an emphysema–induced stroke on November 7, 1991. This exhibition is made in cooperation with the Los Angeles based Tom of Finland Foundation.

Body Heat is a fierce, sassy, irreverent Femme artist collective setting performance art communities ablaze and smashing Femme stereotypes. They’ll challenge your assumptions, entertain the hell out of you, and leave you panting and begging for more!

Armed with an arsenal of erotic song, dance, camp, poetry, smut, and prose Body Heat was hailed by the Center for Sex Positive Culture (Seattle, WA.) as “The best Femme porn writers in the country.” These `pull no punches,’ `it’s never too nasty,’ power femmes are touring to support and promote queer femmes and their contributions to erotica, the sex industry and the sex-positive movement. Thru the use of art and performance they are literally, visually, emotionally, psychologically and socially revealing a more complex sexual identity for queer femmes.
