This afternoon a group of New York City-based sex workers gathered at Arena Studios, the co-sponsor of Sex Worker Visions II, the second annual show of sex workers’ art that I’m curating. New online sex toy shop Vibrator.com generously provided us with a bag full of dildos for us to defile in the name of art, and that is what we did.

Don’t try this at home. It doesn’t smell awesome.

Bucking bronco dildo, sheer brilliance.

Guts and eyeballs spilling out of a dildo.

In two words, the event was fucking awesome. There was a lot of creativity and hilariousness. Also, it was really nice to be in a room of sex workers who were just chatting and swapping stories, laughing and carrying on – since I’m now retired from sex work, pretty much all the time I spend with sex workers is in some activist or magazine-related capacity, so it was awesome to goof off instead of talking about politics and the movement and all that.

Lots more pictures of the proceedings are on my Flickr.

Audacia Ray’s got dates up for her book tour, she’s also still accepting submissions for the Sex Worker Visions show, and she is planning trips to Amsterdam and San Francisco.

Hey, I got tired just reading her post. But mark your calendars.

929dsm Sexerati Interviews: Audacia Ray (Sexerati)
You have a book, “Naked on the Internet,” coming out. What’s it about?
My book is about female sexuality and the Internet. Most media done about this topic is polarized into two camps: the Internet is coming to get your daughters! OR the Internet is a glorious, hedonistic playground! I attempt to go beyond this and explore the ways in which both of these statements are true and false for different women. Most importantly, my book is about the real ways that women use the Internet in their sexual (and sex industry) exploration. I really loathe the overuse of the words “cyber” and “virtual” in mainstream media, because I think that though digital, interactions and explorations women participate in via the Internet are very real and hold a lot of emotional weight for women.

What a swell party it was! The bloggers braved the cold, and were there in force to help Audacia Ray celebrate her movie debut: Mikey Mongol (Bi Apple production mgr), Jefferson and Avah, Selina, Lolita, Boymeat and Dahling, Sinclair, Lux Nightmare, Cherry Bomb (who peformed), Jane Vincent, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Tony Comstock (looking hot in a black tux jacket and leather pants), Chris Hill, Lex Konrad and Les. Chelsea Girl was missed – the poor thing has a mysterious bug that might be mono.Sorry I don’t have better pics. I was deep in conversation with Greg of Njoy Toys at the back of the room. I’m familiar with his products but he showed me a prototype of the “11″ (as in “goes to 11“) – the head on one end of it seems around 6″ around…
