(This may not play, so here’s the link).

Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Written by Leonard Cohen, sung by Jeff Buckley. Heartbreaking.

What a great performance of a truly beautiful — if heartbreaking — song. I love Rufus Wainright’s renditions of the song, too. Piano instead of guitar, and it has a whole different sound.

Elizabeth, I heard this version first – it’s my favorite.

I may have to agree that this is now my favorite, too. It’s certainly another nail in the coffin for the Bono version done on the Cohen tribute album. This song has always been one of my favorites (along with Famous Blue Raincoat), and this version just goes right through your breast-bone and squeezes your heart like an overripe orange…

Dausa’s last blog post..London Calling. Errr, Again.
