In Indiana massage therapists are working to require all massage professionals (anyone who offers massage as a service) to be licensed and monitored by the state.
Barbara Lis, the government relations chairwoman and immediate past president of the Indiana Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association, said she would be more comfortable when adult entertainment massage businesses make it clear to the public what they offer.
“If they claim to be adult entertainment,†Lis said, “at least the public knows.â€
Adult entertainment businesses can be detrimental to massage therapists, Lis said. People who have been exposed to adult entertainment massage can become angry and hostile when dealing with a massage therapist because they expect sexually-oriented services, Lis said. (more)
As the disseminator (heh) of this information, I’ll refrain from stepping onto a soap box about the benefits of licensure for massage therapists. Though, I will say, there’s a damn good reason why I don’t date my clients.
